Why Is This a Better Baking Mix?

It uses hearty whole grains to feed what matters most-their hearts!

An easy way to serve up more love and make at least half your grains whole.

The recipes for muffins, biscuits, pancakes and pizza use oil instead of solid fat.

Best of all-it costs less than buying a baking mix.

Makes 9 cups mix for making Powerhouse Pancakes, Easy-as-Pie Pizza, Deliciously Easy Drop Biscuits and Family Favorite Muffins.

4 cups all-purpose flour

4 cups plain oatmeal (rolled oats) or whole wheat flour

1 1/3 cups nonfat dry milk

4 tablespoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

 1. If using plain oatmeal, whirl in a blender to make flour.

2. In large mixing bowl, stir all ingredients until well mixed.

3. Store in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag.

4. Stir lightly before using in recipes.

A few little known secrets about using whole grain flours…

Whole grain flours make muffins, pancakes and biscuits heavier in texture.  Using half white flour in the basic Better Baking Mix recipe keeps the breads lighter in texture.

To make the mix 100% whole grains, use 4 cups whole wehat flour mixed with 4 cups oats blended into flour using an electric blender. 

To make things a little lighter, but still 100% whole grain, use 100% white whole wheat or 100% whole wheat pastry flour.
